I bought this book when it first came out as a paperback in 1997. It was a Christmas present for my elder son, then aged eight.
He read it once.
And then he read it again.
By the time the Chamber of Secrets came out in Summer 1998, he had read it seven times.
Earlier this year, Simon, co-owner of The Big Green Bookshop, together with a collection of twitter followers, tweeted every word, comma and full stop of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone at Piers Morgan, after PM said he had never read a word of it.
So on the twentieth anniversary of publication, and in honour of JKR, and Simon - who stocks my book in his shop - I'm going to read it.
