Since the start of the year I have been collecting interesting undyed embroidery threads to use for the Thread Pledges. The photo shows eight out of about thirty weights and blends in my stash and they all have a different spinning construction as well.
The examples above are all plant fibres so what you can see is blends of cotton and linen and flax in their "naked" state. Some are soft, others are stiff.
Truth be told, I am in love with all of them!
Dyeing cellulose plant fibre is quite a different beast to dyeing a protein fibre such as wool, silk or alpaca. I find that thread dyeing, with so many types to choose from, is a great adventure. It's nothing like as predictable and hence not as reproducible as dyeing wool.
I'm looking forward to starting this on Wednesday, when the DK yarn is all done.
